Auditions 2007-2008
Interested in becoming a member of Fleet Street? We sure hope so! At the beginning of each school year, Fleet Street opens its doors to welcome in a new generation of singers, and this year, we are doing it again! We’ll be holding auditions Tuesday and Wednesday of the first week of classes (9/25/07 and 9/26/07) to determine who we think is best suited to don our trademark tuxedoes and red bowties. But don't worry, auditions are a breeze and we make sure that they're enjoyable too! There are a couple starting requirements that you must meet to be eligible to join Fleet Street. The first is that you must sport a Y chromosome in your genetic makeup (karyotypes are not necessary — we'll just take your word for it) and the second is that you can solve a 5x5 Rubik's Cube in under 4 minutes, blindfolded, and while wearing a pair of chinese fingertraps between your two ring-fingers. If you are at all unsure about whether or not you can meet either of these requirements (especially the first), you can still audition, just understand that your chances of getting into the group may be slighty diminished. The actual auditions process is pretty straightforward. Just come by our table in White Plaza from the start of New Student Orientation week through the first two days of classes and sign up for an audition time slot on either Tuesday or Wednesday. We'll first lead you through some warm-ups to get a sense for your range, then do simple pitch-matching exercises where we play a few notes on the piano and ask you to sing them back to us. After that, the stage is all yours to sing a 30 second — 2 minute chunk of any song you choose that shows off your voice! Repertoire is definitely not an issue, so feel free to sing anything from Happy Birthday to Ave Maria. Our members come from a whole spectrum of musical training backgrounds (some of us don't even have any!) and we encourage everybody to audition regardless of experience — it really is a lot of fun! If you want to learn more about who we are before auditioning (which is probably a good idea), click here and we'll tell you how we kick it here at Fleet Street. You can also e-mail our Business Manager Stephen Hayes at auditions@fleetstreet.com. He will be happy to answer any further questions you might have regarding the auditions process! We look forward to singing with you!
